Li Yuguang, the deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, said in the SINO-US Commerce and Trade Forum that patent applications originated from the United States amounted up to 20,395 in the year of 2005, with an increase of 30 %. The United States became the second biggest patent application filing country in China, following Japan, which ranked top one.
It is reported that all invention patent applications can be divided into applications filed by domestic applicants and those filed by foreign applicants. Last year, among all the patent applications, 20,705 applications filed by domestic applicants were granted, and 32,600 applications filed by foreign applicants were granted; more invention patents were granted to foreign applicants.
