General Motors To Share Intellectual Property With Shanghai Automobile Industrial Group |

According to Guangzhou Daily, Shanghai Automobile and General Motors will jointly develop a new generation of environment-friendly and energy-saving powertrain technique, including high-efficiency and low-discharge engine series and dry-type dual clutch transmissions. The two parties will share the intellectual property relating to the new generation of powertrain technique.
Compared with traditional powertrain, the new generation of powertrain will possibly reduce oil consumption by more than 20% and carbon discharge by more than 20% while providing sufficient power and satisfying driving enjoyment, thereby meeting the consumers¡¯ requirement for environment¨Cfriendly and energy-saving automobiles.

China¡¯s Grid Dispatching Patent Technique Goes Abroad for the First Time |

After fifteen year¡¯s effort, the research group led by Professor Zhang Boming from Mechanical and Electrical Department of Tsinghua University got a great technical achievement ¡°Key Technique and Exemplary Project of New Generation of Grid Energy Management System (EMS) Based on Three-dimensional Coordination¡± in 2007. The new generation of EMS can deeply diagnose potential problems and probability of occurrence of grid weakness through automatic analysis and computation, give an alarm in advance, and take protective controlling measures to prevent the grid from developing in a dangerous trend, thereby avoiding occurrence of a power-failure.
The achievement of the project, which enjoys completely independent intellectual property, has been granted four patents for inventions and two computer software copyrights. Presently, the achievement has been adoped by twelve province-level users including electric dispatching centers of Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Hebei, Henan, Shanxi and Jilin and other provinces of China, and four grid-level users including dispatching centers of North China, Central China and so on. The technique also attracted the attention from grids abroad. In 2008, the greatest grid company in the world, PJM Grid Company of America, signed a contract with Tsinghua University to introduce the reactive voltage control technique of the project. Presently, the first stage of the project has been completed, and has been recognized by the American party. The second phase of the project is being performed, and has entered into an on-site debugging phase. This is the first time for the patent technique in terms of China grid dispatching automation to go abroad.

Experts in Various Fields Discussed Parallel Importation Issue, INTA Round Table Successfully Held in Unitalen |

On April 24, 2009, Changsha Municipal Intermediate People's Court ruled in favor of the French tire company Michelin against two local tire distributors marketing parallel-imported tires, confirming the nature of trademark infringement upon the right of its Chinese registered mark MICHELIN. It was a final ruling. This is a new trademark infringement case relating to parallel imports that was completed before a Chinese court since the LUX case in Guangdong and AN'GE case in Beijing.
At present, parallel imports have not been addressed by Chinese Trademark Law nor its Implementing Rules and other relevant laws and regulations. Accordingly, the law needs to be supplemented to cover the PI issue. With the continuous development of foreign trade, China will encounter more and more parallel importation issues. Therefore, legal regulation of parallel importation has become a hot topic.
In view of this, hosted by the International Trademark Association (INTA) and supported by Unitalen Law Firm and Unitalen Attorney at Law, a Round Table entitled ¡°Law and Practice of Trademark-related Parallel Importation in China¡± was held successfully in Unitalen on July 30, 2010.
Representatives from INTA, General Administration of Customs and People¡¯s Court, scholars from universities and more than 50 delegates from law firms and enterprises attended the Round Table held in a meeting room of Unitalen and discussed the legal issues relating to parallel imports.
